Results from the largest XMM-Newton observational program, The Ultimate XMM Extragalactic Survey, are published in another special issue of the Astronomy & Astrophysics. This is the second series of papers of the survey and includes the largest data release of the XXL. An open access issue of the A&A can be accessed here (Vol. 620).
XXL Survey, the largest observational program that has been carried out with the ESA’s XMM-Newton satellite, has released it’s second data release. Associated Press Release can be found in ESA’s website.
With the current release there are 20 associated papers published in a special issue of Astronomy & Astrophysics. Based on the analyses obtained cosmological parameters are in good agreement with the standart model of cosmology which implies an acceleration due to Einstein’s gravitational constant.
Süleyman Fişek, a PhD student in our group, has been awarded with his contribution in the National Astronomy Assembly which took place in Erciyes University between 3-7 September 2018 in Kayseri.
Fişek’s contribution’s title is: “Classification of Brightest Cluster Galaxies According to Their Activity Types“.
The award is provided by the Turkish Astronomical Society (TAD) which is 1000 TL for the Best Student Contribution during the 21st National Astronomy Assembly.
Dr. Aliş and his research group’s project is titled as “Evolution of Brightest Cluster Galaxies in the Optical and Near-Infrared Wavelengths“. The group is aiming to investigate the evolution of brightest cluster galaxies (BCGs) in the optical (MegaCam; u,g,r,iz) and near-infrared (WIRCAM; Ks) wavelengths based on the data obtained from the Canada- France-Hawaii Telescope Legacy Survey (CFHTLS) W1 and W4 fields. Approximately 100 square degrees of survey fields will be examined where we will be investigating galaxies between 0.1 < z < 1.2 redshift range. There are roughly 3000 galaxy clusters were detected in the CFHTLS W1 and another 1000 of them are expected to be discovered in the W4. Therefore, in the project we propose nearly 4000 BCGs will be examined. Throughout the project 2 PhD and 1 MSc student will be supported with scholarships. A rough budget of the project is 283.000 TL. There will be a national workshop organized on the topic of determining redshifts of galaxies as the team also is involved with the Spectrum-Roentgen-Gamma collaboration follow-up program which will be carried out with the RTT150 telescope of the TUBITAK National Observatory.
Group members of the Extragalactic Astronomy presented their works at the 20th National Astronomy Meeting.
National Astronomy Meetings take place every two years. 20th meeting took place in Ataturk University, Erzurum.
